A few months ago I had the pleasure of getting together for a meeting in my Norwich shop with Chris Walshaw, owner of Byron & Brown.
It quickly became apparent that we were looking to achieve the same thing: offer people high quality items but at reasonable prices.
Because of his extensive experience and knowledge of leather goods, Chris has been able to compile a leather collection without equal. Somehow the pieces in the range belie their pricing so much that I was left wondering if he'd made a mistake on costs. That's always good. Ipad covers which embarrass the competition on quality, wallets you just want to open just for an excuse to handle them. You get the idea! My personal favourite: the tablet cover with roll back screen cover (see photos).
I'm delighted to offer Chris's creations on my site.

I love seeing someone have a proper attempt at creating a range of accessories without compromising.
Tom has done just that.
He's hit a rich vein of style and quality in his mind, using only the materials he wants to use. The result is a very strong range which screams quality and value, commodities eagerly sought after in this world.
A personal favourite is the Challenger watch with red dial. Made with precision way above it's pay scale, it is only a taster of what Tom Kennett has accomplished here.
LeadenhallUK is proud to have the entire Kennett selection ready for you to take a look.

Leadenhall Uk are proud to launch a total corporate wear offering for the first time.
If
you are looking for higher quality, well cut and finished pieces for
your staff or organisation, you have come to the right place.
Often in this particular market you will find items which professional people dislike wearing. Not so here.
Each product has been submitted to extensive testing so that it remains in shape and is very easy to care for.
Larger quantites? Please ask about our deals on six or more pieces.
Don't let this deceive though; this range looks just at home on one person as much many!

A real all rounder we find here.
The Dawlish suit from Brook Taverner can be worn very successfully at a Wedding, open- necked casually or for business. You don't have to choose dark colours for versatility any more; sharkskin grey is a clever choice. It fits well straight off, but wearing the jacket (perhaps even more body-tapered by your local tailor for about £20) with jeans and you have a perennial two piece.
Be quick- this suit will not last long.

I’m not usually one for nostalgia. I’m much more a fan of A Gallardo than a Jarama. But something caught my complete attention a couple of days ago which raced me back to when I was 7 years old. My motorcycle hero, Barry Sheene, has been fondly remembered by way of a fantastic leather holdall. As soon as I saw it, I bought one for the shop. Of course, this being Norfolk, it wouldn’t be right not to have the Lotus equivalent.
Just looking at it makes me think of the dogfight on the track between Barry and Kenny Roberts. To a boy of such tender age that really was edge of the seat viewing. He seemed genuinely fearless. Barry is no longer with us- cancer took him in 2003- but he’ll never be forgotten by the fans who saw and met him.

It's so much easier to
enthuse about an item that you would happily put your own hand in your
pocket for.
Whenever I receive a Babette
Wasserman order, I don't think what my customers could wear with them,
but
how they would look on me.
Highly unprofessional.
With 'BW' you get all the
design and quality you require, but at a reasonable price. Added to that
not
everybody knows about the
range, so exclusivity is there too.
Either as a gift or a
personal treat, all the details are present. What would you wear them
with?

I've recently been asked about evening wear.
More precisely one question in particular. Yes, there are more important things in life to worry about, but that's not the point. Just knowing is enough.
It's this: When in the course of an evening event is it ok to undo your bow tie?
You may not like my verdict. You'll get over it, but its a view employed by the best dressed men in the world.
Think of the soldier sitting down for his evening meal with his contemporaries. The moment he sits, that's it. He can't loosen his tie, he can't 'ease off' his trousers as the meal he is eating takes refuge in his stomach. He is not even allowed to visit the lavatory during the seated part of the evening. Three or more courses. Drinks. Coffee. Room and body temperature changes. The clothing is required not to change in its appearance.
You must organise your body, intake and clothing accordingly. You can imagine the queue for the toilets after the meal! How does this relate to you?
If you want to gain the sartorial high ground, You must plan to walk out of the event as you walked in. No undone shirt with bow tie draping down from your neck. No untucked shirt or 'Travolta' swinging jacket above your head on the dance floor.
Plan ahead; choose a shirt you know will feel good with the top button fastened all evening. A pair of dinner trousers that are comfortable when sat and standing. A jacket you can sit correctly in to eat and drink. A suit you won't feel like taking off. A tie which needs little or no attention.
A final piece of related advice: don't drink too much. Uncontrolled behaviour is not an attractive accessory.
Perish the thought.

I love old friends.
You can connect with them far quicker than others because of your mutual special links with the past. You feel immediate comfort in their company- a very precious feeling indeed. The clothing equivalent to this feeling for me is the Prince of Wales check suit. Not to be mistaken for the Prince Edward (a red overcheck in the cloth, not blue), albeit a classic in its own right.
I had a 'P.O.W' check many years ago and always felt well dressed in it. That feeling returned when I saw the new season collection of suits from Brook Taverner. Foremost was the Beaulieu, a half canvassed affair comprising Italian wool in a choice of three cloths, and a restrained elegance usually seen only in suits costing £200 more.
May I introduce you to your new old friends.

Some things in menswear remain relatively unchanged after many years. The Covert coat is deservedly such an item.
This coat is 3/4 length and usually has a velvet top collar, which served a practical purpose in years past. Those days are gone, but the velvet stays. That's a great thing because it tells the garment apart from other items instantly.
My preference is to see it worn without a suit jacket underneath, which indicates you should purchase one in a similar way to how you purchase a suit jacket. It just keeps everything more elegant.
However a Covert coat can very successfully be worn casually with well cut, not too disheveled jeans and relatively smart shoes. This presents the wearer with more value in the garment as well as a smarter, effort- given look when dressing down.
Leadenhall are proud to show the Bladen Covert coat. The cut and quality is very hard to beat for £395; full canvas chest pieces along with the classic cloth make this something you won't have to replace in a hurry (unless they bring another colour out!).
I've taken a few photographs in daylight and artificial light to illustrate what a beautiful cloth this is made of.
Beware of cheap versions of this. They start to look very sorry for themselves very quickly!
I can wholeheartedly recommend this coat for the Autumn/Winter season.
Some things need changing, others are better left alone.

Leadenhall Suit Company and LeadenhallUK.com love discovering little stars within collections.
We are spoilt for choice this 'SS09' season, but appearing as a strong finsher is the 'Esher' suit.
Rarely do you find such a gem; I've not seen such a lightly coloured cloth (Natural beige/Sage green) look so correct
on such a wide size range of men. This is ably accommodated by a very generous size scale, starting at 38", up to a King size 60" regular jacket.
I've seen it with my own eyes; whether it's tried on by a slim hospital consultant or a burly tradesman, this suit looks right.
Does it cost a King's ransom? Come on, you know us better than that!

Shoes are a vital part of the well-dressed man's strategy!
Ignore good
shoes at your peril for practical as well as sartorial reasons.
Leadenhall is now offering shoes. Meantime, Here's a reference point to
help with selection of the perfect shoes for you.
International Shoe sizes differ. The United States uses a different sizing for shoes than in Europe, but because of some of the fine products that are
imported, we often need to convert the sizes.

When Shopping for shoes you must pay special attention to the Last. The
last is the form in which the leather is stretched over to make the shoe.
Lasts are made in different shapes. Some have broad, round toe areas, (toe
box) and some lasts have more narrow and pointed toe boxes.
The more effort you make, the more your feet will thank you!

Thank goodness- great news!
You don't have to buy brand new items of clothing from head to toe each time to obtain a stylish look. Some lateral thinking and moderate expense will see you through.
Of course I'm biased when I say that I recommend a bespoke item to form a basis for a well dressed man, and I still hold to that.
However with some clever tailoring, perhaps slightly modifying a ready to wear item to fit just that little bit better, you can really approach bespoke heights. Even selecting good shoes can transform the way you look and feel; have a new shirt to reinvent a tired, albeit well kept jacket. For formalwear, may one suggest a splash of daring red on a tie to awaken a darkened suit?
Try a well cut pair of casual trousers to make your legs and glutes appear more honed! I'm freeing you from the terrifying thought of spending lots of money when you don't need to...My work here is done, no need to thank.

When it comes to style, there are certain things that don't date.
I am a huge fan of a well thought out smart Summer look which reflects your surroundings.
Cue the linen suit with slip ons, no socks.
True, you have to be careful to avoid that 'I've just taken my socks off, that'll do' look. But you'll find that the gently creased, lazy attitude of a linen jacket, either with well- cut jeans or matching trousers should do the trick.
Brook Taverner'Jeremy' Linen Suit. £254.00
Finish off with a patterned shirt without a tie, or perhaps linen again left untucked.
Make the decision and stick to it though, as you can't tuck a shirt in and then untuck it later!
This all serves to make you look sartorially acceptable, but not too formal.
A little tip: sprinkle some talcum powder in the shoes and between your toes! This feels especially nice in leather - lined shoes.
Olymp Luxor patterned shirt. £35.49
Loake Skipton Ginger suede slip-ons, contrast cream stitch. £95. Available form LSC

Personal style nowadays has become very important, whether we like it or not.
So many judgments, fair and unfair, are made at lightning speed not only in personal life but also in business. It almost goes without saying these assumptions and conclusions get directed completely unfairly at their target, and of course without their knowledge. Half or more of the fun I suspect.
Yet as unpalatable as this thinking is, it is part of life.
To the more hard headed unwitting recipient of such 'judgements', such remarks make little difference and would serve only to antagonize. However if felt or even overheard by sensitive ones, even the most 'off the cuff' comments can at best play on the mind, at worst cause deep hurt to the ego.
This coupled with what one thinks one should wear, for example images in the media, and you have a recipe for a jaundiced sense of personal style.
In future blogs my humble suggestions shall aim to bring to the surface the reader's, not my, sense of style. I will not be asking anyone to be Icarus with their clothes, no death dealing risks here. To have an open mind towards change is far more important. Again, though, not change for change's sake. Perhaps gradual improvement if the reader feels it necessary.
But remember: unless you're a presenter on Top Gear, your own sense of style is usually a good guide.
